Day 1: Carthage – Sidi Bou Said – Hammamet

  • Your guide will pick you up at the Tunis airport and take you to explore Carthage’s ruins including:

    • The Amphitheater: Colosseum ruins where gladiator games once took place.

    • Brysa Hill: Ancient Carthage church and ruins overlooking the sea.

    • Antonine Baths: Roman baths along the shore.

    • Aqueducts: Learn how Romans dispersed water through their civilization.

Sidi Bou Said

  • Visit Museum Dar El Annabi, an old blue house with artifacts.

  • Walk downhill to enjoy sea and marina views.

  • Lunch at Au Bon Vieux Temps, a seafood restaurant with ocean views.

  • Drive to Hotel Paradise Palace (~1 hr).

  • Enjoy the beach, sunset, and dinner at the hotel buffet. Avoid beach vendors with horses or camels.

Day 2: Hammamet – Kairouan – Tozeur

  • Optional: watch the sunrise over the Mediterranean.

  • Breakfast at the hotel and experience a guided tour of Hammamet Medina and Old Port.

  • Visit Kairouan, an Islamic holy city:

    • Aghlabid Basins.

    • Great Mosque (head covering required for women).

    • Mosque of the Barber, filled with mosaics.

  • Lunch at Café Brija and tour of the Medina including the Three Door Mosque.

  • Drive to Tozeur (~4 hrs) and stay at Le Mouradi Tozeur.

Day 3: Star Wars & Oases

  • Jeep ride at sunrise to Mos Espa Star Wars Set (Episodes I & IV).

  • Visit Ong Jemal, Chebika Oasis, and the canyon waterfall (The English Patient filming site).

  • Lunch at Eden Palm Oasis, with a date farm tour and meal among palm trees.

  • Stop at Chott El Jerid Salt Flats for photos before heading to Ksar Ghislane.

  • Overnight at Hotel Pansy (glamping in desert tents in the Sahara). Be aware, it can get extremely cold in the desert at night (and morning/evening).

Day 4: Sahara – Matmata

  • Optional sunrise viewing before dune exploration.

  • Quad or camel ride in the Sahara to Ksar Ghislane ruins, then take a dip in a natural hot spring.

  • Visit Tamezret for tea and a Berber museum.

  • Lunch at Hotel Sidi Driss (Star Wars filming site).

  • Overnight at Diar Hotel.

Day 5: Ksars & Berber Villages

  • Visit Ksar Hadada, Ksar Ouled Soltane, and Shenini Berber village.

  • Lunch in town and drive to El Jem (~3 hrs).

  • Stay at Julius Hotel El Jem.

Day 6: El Jem – Monastir – Sousse – Testour

  • Explore El Jem Amphitheater and Archaeological Museum.

  • Visit Rabat of Monastir and have lunch at a local restaurant.

  • Explore Sousse Medina and Rabat, then stop for souvenirs.

  • Stay at Hotel Thugga in Testour (try the wild boar dinner! It was a favorite of the trip for many, foodies and non-foodies of the group alike).

Day 7: Testour – Dougga – Bulla Regia – Tunis

  • Breakfast and tour of Testour’s Medina and Grand Mosque, with the backwards clock.

  • Explore Roman ruins in Dougga and underground homes in Bulla Regia.

  • Dinner with music at Essaraya Restaurant before airport drop-off.
