Voyageurs National Park
Voyageurs National Park Itinerary
Day 1: Voyageurs National Park
Boat-Based Exploration on Rainy Lake
Arrive and check into your chosen campground. You can review campground options.
Rent or bring a boat — this park is ~40% water, with many islands only accessible by boat.
Stock up on snacks, drinks, picnic lunch items, card games, and bring bug spray + bug fog.
Launch at the Rainy Lake Visitor Center.
Explore by boat: dock or anchor at any unoccupied island, fish (known for walleye), or hike off-shore.
Wildlife to watch for: black bears, coyotes, wolves, and bald eagles.
Navigate carefully — follow the colored buoy system to avoid rocky hazards.
Day 2: Voyageurs National Park
Lake Kabetogama Adventure on the Water
Launch your boat at the Lake Kabetogama Visitor Center.
Unoccupied islands are open for exploration — dock or anchor, fish, and roam.
Focus your day on the South & East sides of the lake.
Stop for a photo op at the Lake Kabetogama Walleye sign near the launch area.
Day 3: Voyageurs National Park
Exploring the North & West Sides + Ellsworth Rock Garden
Launch again at the Lake Kabetogama Visitor Center.
Explore the North & West sides of the lake for new views and quieter coves.
Visit the Ellsworth Rock Gardens— an island with unique rock sculptures built in the 1940s.
After the day, pull the boat out and begin your journey home.
